Hong Kong Welcomes 40.7 Million Visitors in the First Nine Months of 2026
Hong Kong recorded 40.7 million visitor arrivals in January–September 2026. Understand the retail context and distinguish forecasts from results.
The Hong Kong Government announced on 2 November 2026 that visitor arrivals reached 40.7 million in the first nine months of the year, up 12% from the same period in 2025. August recorded about 5.46 million arrivals, a new post-pandemic monthly high.
The figures indicate increased overall visitor demand, but do not mean that every district, retail category or restaurant experienced the same growth in footfall or revenue. Retail and food businesses serving visitors can consider their own customer mix and visit patterns when planning products, dining capacity and staffing.
The Government also projects 53.8 million visitor arrivals and HK$238.1 billion in total inbound-tourism-related expenditure for the full year. Both are forecasts, not realised results, and may change. Growth in aggregate arrivals does not guarantee higher sales or profits for an individual business.
