HKICL Warns of Fraudulent FPS Websites Seeking Personal and Banking Information
HKICL warns of two fraudulent websites impersonating its FPS services and seeking identity and banking information. Check the genuine domains and verification advice.
The Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited (HKICL) issued an alert on 14 August 2026 after identifying two fraudulent websites impersonating HKICL. The sites presented themselves as a “Buyer Online Protection” service for Faster Payment System (FPS) transactions, claiming to offer buyer refunds, reporting of unauthorised online transactions and transaction support.
According to HKICL, the fraudulent sites attempted to obtain users’ personal document numbers, identity-document photographs and telephone numbers under the pretext of real-name verification for a cash reward. They also sought bank names, bank-account holder numbers and names for topping up or withdrawing money through a virtual wallet using FPS, and directed users to fraudsters posing as customer-service personnel.
HKICL stressed that the sites have no affiliation with HKICL or any of its operations. Under normal circumstances, HKICL does not directly provide FPS services to individual members of the public or proactively contact them. Its genuine official websites are:
Before entering personal or banking information, businesses and individuals should independently verify the website address and the identity of anyone claiming to represent HKICL. A promise of a refund, transaction assistance or a cash reward should not be treated as proof that a website or contact is genuine. Do not rely on links supplied through an unsolicited message; compare the address with the official domains above.
Anyone receiving suspicious communication purportedly from HKICL may call HKICL’s general line at 2533 1111 to verify it. Anyone who suspects that they have fallen victim to fraud should report the matter promptly to the Police.
